NEITHER SATURDAY NOR SUNDAY IS THE TRUE SABBATH...IT'S YESHUA HAMSHIACH (MESSIAH/CHRIST) OUR LORD!!

Romans 14:4-10; “Who art thou that judges another man’s servant? To his own master, he stands or falls. Yea, he shall be held up: for GOD is able to make him stand. One man esteemed one day above another: another esteemed every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regarded the day, regarded it unto the LORD; and he that regarded not the day, to the LORD he doth not regard it. He that eats, eats to the LORD, for he gives GOD thanks; and he that eats not, to the LORD he eats not, and gives GOD thanks. For none of us lives to himself, and no man dies to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the LORD; and whether we die, we die unto the LORD: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the LORD’s. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be LORD both of the dead and living. But why does thou judge thy brother? Or why does thou set at naught thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.”

According to the current Gregorian calendar, Sunday marks the beginning of the week.

1. Many modern ministries have their largest church gathering on Sunday because Yeshua was resurrected on the first day of the week: Hebrews 10:25; "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

The tradition of attending "church" on Sunday and bible study on Wednesday is customary for the majority of Christian churches.

1. Other Christian congregations desire to observe the Jewish Sabbath by ceasing from work, and worshipping the LORD, on Saturday: Psalms 119:45; "And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts."

It is our prerogative, as Believers, to choose when and where we want to worship YAHWEH.

1. The day, time, and location of worship services should never be forced upon all ministries as a dogmatic observation: Titus 3:9; "But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."

1. YAHWEH specifically forbade us from judging our fellow brethren based on their observance of feasts, or holy days: Colossians 2:16; "Let no man, therefore, judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days."

The children of Israel lived in a self-contained society that was governed by YAHWEH, through the priests that He selected. The Israelites were able to create the rules to govern their own existence.

1. They did not have to conform to a parent society’s rules and regulations:

• Leviticus 26:12; "And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people."

In Gentile nations, one must observe the laws of the land.

1. If we desire to work, we must conform to the calendar of our society:

• Romans 13:1; "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of GOD: the powers that be are Ordained of GOD."

Those that presently claim to be “Sabbath keepers” are not really keeping the true Jewish Sabbath because they are using the wrong calendar. The original calendar described in the Torah, and used by Moses, was based upon the phases of the moon, not a continuous weekly cycle. This lunar calendar was used for all the feast days, including the weekly Sabbath. Since the biblical calendar is based on the moon, it does not correspond to the days of the modern, Gregorian calendar. For example, the Sabbath is not always on Saturday. The Sabbath could be on Wednesday one month, and Thursday the next.

While "Sabbath keepers" may have good intentions, they cannot use a pagan calendar, which is based on the phases of the sun, to designate a given day as “The LORD's Day.”

The modern calendar was created by Julius Caesar in 45 BC to honor Roman gods and goddesses.

1. The days recognized the following false gods:

• Saturn (Saturn's Day- Saturday)

• Sun (Sun's Day- Sunday)

• Moon (Moon's Day - Monday)

• Mars (Tiu's Day- Tuesday)

• Mercury (Woden's Day- Wednesday)

• Jupiter (Thor's Day- Thursday)

• Venus (Freya's Day- Friday)

In an effort to unify his kingdom, Constantine synchronized the Christian and Pagan holy days by merging the Jewish calendar with the solar calendar in 321 AD. Constantine also blended the Hebrew idea of a seven-day week with the Julian concept of a weekly cycle. He even added the veneration of the "Sun God" from Mithrasim to create the Roman calendar used today.

In 325 AD, Constantine and the Council of Nicaea replaced Passover with Easter, but Constantine did not simply replace one day with another. He used a completely different system of calendation since Passover cannot be computed using a Julian calendar. This was a subtle, strategic act to paganize and terrorize the Jewish population. The Roman government used persecution, throughout the empire, in order to enforce adherence to the new national calendar. The Jewish Sanhedrin met for the last time around 350 AD to modify the Julian calendar to the form used by most Jews today. According to the modified calendar, the Sabbath is on Saturday, but the other Feast Days conform to the lunar calendar.

It is our responsibility to worship YAHWEH and to rest from our work. But, the day we choose to worship YAHWEH and rest from work is our choice. Yeshua stated in the Word that He came to fulfill the Sabbath, feasts, and holy days.

YESHUA HAMSHIACH (MESSIAH/CHRIST) IS OUR SABBATH REST!!!

We are no longer under the law; now we are under grace. Grace does not nullify the law, but it allows us to be governed by the new covenant of Yeshua Hamshiach (Messiah/Christ).

So, as Gentiles, we rest when we desire and we give YAHWEH glory at any time. It does not matter when the doors of the church are opened and the people assemble. After all, we should worship and praise the LORD corporately, in the church building, and when we are away from the church. The children of Israel were freed from the bondage of Egypt’s system so they could be governed by the laws and rules of YAHWEH alone. If we were to observe the true Sabbath today, it would have serious economic consequences. Those desiring to observe the Sabbath according to the biblical, lunar calendar will find themselves having to repeatedly ask for days off during the standard Monday to Friday work week. Obviously, such a schedule would not be favorable to most employers and fellow employees. We must be reasonable in our efforts to please YAHWEH and we must understand the allowances He has for those of us that are living in pagan societies. It is our obligation to keep YAHWEH first and foremost in our hearts and minds. We are instructed to worship YAHWEH in spirit and truth instead of trying to worship Him in accordance with a calendar of feasts and holy days that our parent culture does not subscribe to. YAHWEH is GOD all of the time and we should recognize Him every chance we get.
